Guatemala

I made it down to Guatemala with Jared with no major issues other than being very tired. Doug dropped us off at the airport in Dallas and we went and waited through long lines to get to our gate. We arrived ten minutes before our plane was supposed to leave...and then sat on the plane for twenty minutes waiting for passengers from connecting flights. We take off and all goes well...but as my dad hates...we had a very talkative pilot. He went on and on about how high we were, the wind speed, time of arrival...etc. I watched the movie The Fantastic Four, and enjoyed it. Then I poked, bugged, shook, and annoyed Jared until he woke up and talked to me.

After landing we had no trouble getting through customs, passport check, and out the door. Getting baggage was another thing. In the US it is usual for people to stand back and when your luggage comes, you step forward and pick it up. Not so here. While standing there trying to get our bags a lady kept trying to push me out of her way. I was about three feet taller than her so it did not work so well. So after finding me immovable, she goes and pushes past the people next to us to get in front of me. Her bags were as big as she was and every time she tried to move them, she usually dropped them or would just kind of leave them next to her ish. One of her bags she decided to lean against the cart I was holding, and because I did not want to hold the weight of her suitcase, I let the cart slide backwards and watched as her bag fell. Well, Jared saw two of our bags coming and he told her so and asked her to move. She refuse so he pulled them off and she still would not move, so he knocked her over. After she finally cleared out and we got the rest of our bags we headed to the door. A man stopped me and mumbled something in Spanish. Seeing my blank look he held up baggage claim stickers and indicated he wanted ours. We gave them to him, he checked the number of bags we had, and off we go again. They do not allow you to take the carts out of the airport so Jared's dad, mom, and brother helped us grab them and leave the cart. I had a large suitcase, Jared had two smaller ones, and the rest were carried by the rest of his family. While walking out, Jared stopped at the end of the small area where we were allowed to leave. Only being wide enough for one person to pass through at a time, when one person stopped...everyone had to. I tell Jared to keep moving...and as I am doing this, the man behind me is kicking my suitcase into me to get me to move. I wanted to back it into him or stop, but I didn't. Even as I started to move, he was still kicking my suitcase into my legs. Then we get out to their van. As his dad is about to open the back, someone pulls right up behind him so he cannot open it. We wait for that person to move and then load the bags.

We stopped at Burger King and I got a chicken whopper meal. We drove to their house and made it inside. After everyone had gone to bed, Jared and I watched an episode of Monk he had wanted me to see. It was about Monk's first time in an airplane. He solved a mystery while on the plane and it was very funny to see him freak out. He also did not think it was physically possible for a plane to be able to fly...he thought they were too heavy.

Then we wandered around looking at things in his house. Then I fell asleep...

The next morning as I woke, I found that a bottle of perfume I had stuck in my suitcase had managed to leak and one of the bottle of Prednazone (for emergency asthma attacks) had opened and the Prednazone had dissolved into the perfume, and coated all my other meds, toothbrushes, hairbrushes..etc. After getting that cleaned up and only losing a few things to the trash, I got up, woke Jared up, watched him post on his blog, ate cereal, and wrote this post. So now you know just as much as I do. Congratulations.

Interesting? It sounds rather unpleasant to me. I hope the rest of your Christmas is an improvement!
Are all Guatemalans as rude as they sound, or just the ones by the airport?
